How Young People See Marijuana Is Revealing

Canadian rates for marijuana use by young people remain among the highest in the world.

According to a report released by the Canadian Centre for Substance Abuse, young people, between the ages of 14 and 19, think marijuana is neither addictive nor harmful with some young people use pot for stress, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, depression or relaxation.

By and large, they’re also confused about marijuana use, hold false beliefs and are likely to rely on friends, drug dealers or personal experiences to form their opinions. They say their peers, family members, the availability of marijuana and the belief that marijuana is acceptable as influencing their decision whether or not to use it.

Most young people who took part felt that long term, frequent marijuana users were subject to negative health effects but recreational users were not and many believe marijuana renders you less impaired than alcohol when it comes to driving.
