How far would you bike for charity? For Matthew Pike the answer is across Canada.
On June 6th, Pike left Vancouver, BC heading East to St. John’s, NL to raise money for the Children’s Wish Foundation.
“Children’s Wish Foundation has been near and dear to our family, I have a cousin who unfortunately passed away a few years ago, he was a wish child when he was a young fella,” says Pike. “You know, it’s a charity that’s close to our family so I thought it’d be a good idea to do it for them.”
The destination is the statue of Terry Fox in downtown St. John’s.
“[We’ve had] good weather, making good time, so we started a few weeks back and started fundraising for Children’s Wish,” says Pike. “We’re doing much better than we thought we would be. We have a goal of $10,000 and right now we’re at over $15,000.”
Day 47: We are now over $15,000! Incredible generosity shown by all. Off to enjoy my rest day today & back on road tmr! #BikeRide4Kids 5/5

Pike adds the ride is just him his bike with “four saddlebags on, I got a tent on my bike and anywhere I go along the way, and when I get tired I find a spot to camp out, that’s where I sleep that night.”
He adds he always wanted to see the country in a unique way, and a bunch of his friends did that after university but he went straight to a job.
Pike says this is an opportunity to both do a good thing for charity, and to realize his dream of traveling across Canada.
