Hot Cars And Pets Are A Bad Combination

Pets and hot cars do not mix.

You should never leave your pet in a vehicle, especially on a hot day.

And if you happen to spot an animal in a car, unattended, there are steps you must take to get them out.

Executive Director for the Greater Moncton SPCA Dave Rogers says do not try to remove the animal yourself, “If you smash the window in a car, and take an animal out, you risk being charged with break and enter. If the animal is in dire distress though, you should contact the RCMP and they would have the authority to open the vehicle.”

The New Brunswick SPCA has the authority to assist and they have a 1-800 number to call in cases like this. It is 1-877-722-1522. Rogers say they are the enforcement people for the province of New Brunswick, and deal with animal cruelty.
