Smoke detectors save lives and residents are now encouraged to have one in their bedroom as well.
For fire prevention week across the country, the theme this year is “Hear the beep, where you sleep.”
Division Chief for the Dieppe Fire Department Marc Cormier says two months ago, the beep saved the residents inside a home.
He says he’s convinced had the two people not heard the smoke detector in this case they would have been dealing with two bodies in that house.
Residents are encouraged to keep their bedroom door closed at night to create a barrier, in the case there is a fire.
A smoke detector in the bedroom will ensure that residents hear the beep.
