HaliMac Axe Throwing Expected To Open In Moncton This Fall

A new form of entertainment is coming to Moncton’s downtown.

HaliMac Axe Throwing is hoping to open in September.

Co-Owner Adrien Beaton says they currently have locations in Kentville and Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, as well as St. John’s Newfoundland, and they have been looking at the Hub City for quite awhile.

“It’s a big city, it’s on the East Coast and it’s accessible, and it is up and coming. It is a city that is designed to invite new business. It really makes sense because there’s lots of craft beer and a great downtown atmosphere. I think it is going to be a great fit there.”

Axe Throwing is exactly as it sounds. It’s a night out with a few friends, but as a form of entertainment, you throw axes at a target.

Beaton says, “It started in Toronto in 2011. It has kind of organic roots. It was just a couple of guys who started throwing in their backyard. They’re actually called the Backyard Axe Throwing League. It is one of the bigger companies. It grew in popularity and now it’s all over the world.”

The thought of throwing axes might be a concern to some, but Beaton says safety is a top priority for them.

“It’s one of these things that is perceived as much more dangerous than it is. The lanes are divided and you’re also divided behind you. We go over all of the rules when you show up as well. We’ve never had any injuries at either or our locations. You have to really go out of your way to hurt someone. When you hear axes and beer and the mixture of the two of them, trust me we hear the same thing when we go to open a new location, people says things like, “Beer and axes, well what could go wrong?” So far nothing has gone wrong, which is good. Everyone just has fun.”
