Green Party Makes History In Prince Edward Island Election

History was made yesterday in Prince Edward Island as the Green Party won its first seat ever in the legislature.

Peter Bevan-Baker, won close to 55 per cent of the votes in District 17.

NB Green Party leader David Coon says this is great news for the party.

“So excited to see Peter Bevan-Baker chosen by the people of his riding to represent them in the legislature it was just extraordinary,” says Coon. “He won by such a huge margin.”

Coon says the only province in the Maritimes without a green member in their legislature now is Nova Scotia.

“In each case they’ve defeated a sitting Cabinet minister, as did Peter Bevan-Baker,” says Coon. “Maybe that will provide some ideas to the Nova Scotia Greens as to where to target their efforts in the next Nova Scotian election.”

Coon says the victory bodes well for the upcoming federal election.

“Certainly great news for Federal Candidates who will be running in the next election Federally,” says Coon.

Coon was the first member of the Green party to be elected to the New Brunswick legislature.
