Green Leader Overjoyed With Party’s Results

The leader of the Green Party is not entertaining any co-operation from those not aligned with the party’s values.

Speaking following his win in Fredericton South on Monday, Coon backed away from any comparison to the People’s Alliance and any suggestion the Greens would work with them in any coalition framework.

“We certainly can’t work with a party if it’s intent on watering down or removing the rights of Acadian and francophone New Brunswickers,” Coon told our newsroom, “and we certainly can’t work with a party either if they don’t take climate change seriously.

Coon said the Greens want to work to their own principals, saying the party has bottom lines when it comes to environmental policy.

The party made big strides this election, bringing two additional members to the legislature.

Coon said he is overjoyed to be joined by his two newest MLAs — Kevin Arseneau and Megan Mitton.

“They both ran incredible campaigns, they both are remarkable people, well-known in their communities, well-known to be strong champions for their communities,” he said.

Coon said both Kent North and Memramcook-Tantramar were ready for Green members, even though Arseneau won by over 70 votes, and Mitton by just 11.
