A downtown Moncton landmark for the past 75 years is now in need of repair and help is needed.
A fundraising campaign was officially launched today for Our Lady of the Assomption Cathedral with a goal of reaching $7 million.
Former New Brunswick Lieutenant Governor Hermenegilde Chaisson is serving as the campaign’s honourary chairperson.
“This building… this cathedral… has been ours. This is why it is so critical that it continues to shape our skyline for this city will lose an importasnt part of its soul if it did not.”
The Assomption Cathedral needs a new roof, windows, stone, mortar and a foundation.
The campaign has already received an early boost – thanks to community enthusiasm for the project $3 million has already been raised which is about 43 percent of the goal.
