Funding A Major Boost For Lunenburg County Cranberry Grower

A Lunenburg County Cranberry Grower and producer is receiving a boost from the Federal Government to help them expand, increase productivity and be more competitive in an increasing global marketplace.

Terra Beata Farms, located on Heckman’s Island, will receive $450,000 dollars toward new cleaning and freezing equipment as well as a new storage facility to be located in Sackville, New Brunswick.

“It’s kind of a central point for their business and where their fruit is shipped from,” says Bernadette Jordan, Liberal MP for South Shore-St.Margaret’s. “

The project is expected to create an additional 4 full time jobs along with an additional 20 seasonal positions in New Brunswick, and maintain the 25 year-round jobs here in Nova Scotia.

The project is part of the ongoing Atlantic Growth Strategy; the funding itself is repayable and made possible through the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

“What this does, is it guarantees that they will be able to maintain and grow their business here on the South Shore; it’s going to guarantee that the facility on Heckman’s Island continues to grow and to provide the jobs here in Lunenburg County,” adds Jordan.
