After a one day delay due to weather, 22-year old Marissa Shephard’s trial is continuing today with only two witnesses called thus far.
The first was Stella Tenant, the General Manager of the Comfort Inn on Maplewood Drive in Moncton, where Shephard was arrested on March 1st, 2016.
Tenant testified to the process by which people rent rooms, and also identified Room 111 which was the focus of an RCMP search.
2/2 the renter of the room can use either door, internal or patio to get in or out.

Lemieux: did you request it in this case? Tenant: no. Lemieux: does the process indicate how many people stayed in the room? Tenant: we normally ask how many people will be staying there.

The second witness was Lorina Van Nieuw Amerongen, who met Shephard while they were both in prison at the Women’s Correctional Facility in Miramichi.
Amerongen reported overhearing Shephard utter a disturbing comment while they were in the common area of the prison.
Amerongen says Shephard liked to talk, adding this incident she overheard was in English, doesn’t remember the time but was during the day, sometime in the afternoon. Crown: your reaction? Amerongen: couldn’t believe it, shocked.

They were in two separate groups, about six feet apart from one another, as established by Crown prosecutor Annie St. Jacques during questioning.
Cross examination by Defence lawyer Gilles Lemieux begins this afternoon at 1:30.
