The first Green Party member ever elected to the provincial legislature says he detected momentum in his direction during the last few days of campaigning in Fredericton South. David Coon says he was hearing a lot of discontent in the riding about both the Liberals and Conservatives.
One real bone of contention with people in Fredericton South is the forestry agreement reached between the Alward Government and J-D Irving which struck many as unfair.
Coon says he wants to make sure the legislature works as it should and not be used just for electioneering. He will also be pushing for easier access to publicly funded abortions and getting rid of what he calls the prehistoric rquirement of having two doctors give their okay.
Coon tells us if Premier designate Brian Gallant wants to create jobs in a hurry, the way to do it is to build up Efficiency NB with green initiatives to make housing and businesses more energy efficient with the retrofitting of buildings.
He’s also promising more scrutiny of spending bills and make the legislature less of a forum for electioneering. Coon earlier told us he believes the legislature is dysfunctional with M-L-A’s not even reading the bills they vote on.
