New firefighter recruits are training in Fredericton this week, in advance of the opening of a second fire station in Dieppe.
Division Chief for Fire Prevention, Investigation and Inspection for the City of Dieppe Marc Cormier says there are 14 new cadets and four additional full timers who are learning new skills at a training tower at Station 2 in Fredericton.
He says, “We’re blending our previous training with new tactics so that incident command personnel can assign two crews at the same time on the same fire ground.”
The training tower is designed for live fire, and they are creating about eight different scenarios per day, so Cormier says they are learning a lot.
Cormier says the crew at Station Two In Fredericton have been extremely helpful this week during their training.
The new fire station is expected to open in Dieppe on January 5th.
