Admitted RCMP killer Justin Bourque finally spoke to the court at the end of day two of his sentencing hearing as he faces three counts of first degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Bourque, 24, has appeared calm and collected throughout the proceedings but when the Crown and his defence lawyer David Lutz wrapped up their statements Chief Justice David Smith asked him if he wanted to say anthing.
Bourque became emotional as he made a statement to the court.
“I want families to know your husband’s, son’s, brother’s, sister’s or friend’s death does mean something to me. No there’s nothing to be proud of. I did nothing good. I am sorry. I can’t say anything more.”
In closing remarks, the Crown said this is one of the most heinous crimes in Canadian history.
Defence lawyer David Lutz told the court when he first met Bourque before even saying hello, Bourque said, “I’m pleading guilty”.
The Crown wants a 75 year prison term with no chance of parole, the defence is seeking 50 years.
Chief Justice Smith will deliver his sentence on Friday at 2-pm.
