Fifty Kilometre Run To Give Back To The Humanity Project

Serving meals to the homeless can have a huge impact on your outlook on life, that according to a Moncton woman who has come up with a way of giving back to the Humanity Project.

Amy Pidt says volunteering with the organization over the past three years with her twin boys has taught them even more kindness, caring and compassion.

“I have 14 year old twin boys, so we started when they were 11 years old. They were very introvert and it has brought them out of their shell. It has made them everything the Humanity Project stands for. It has opened my eyes to the struggles people face and it has given me an opportunity to appreciate everything I have in this life,” Pidt says.

She has a goal of running 50 kilometres from the Humanity Project to Aboiteau Beach on October 17th.

“I have been training all summer. The goal is to raise $500, 000 for the farm, so I would love to raise $50,000 of that.”

The farm was recently announced by Humanity Project Founder Charles Burrell. It will be a new rehabilitation and reintegration farm, and it is located in Little River.

Pidt will leave Moncton at 8am on the 17th, and hopes to arrive by around 2pm.

“I had a bit of a troubled past, and I can relate to a lot of the stories. I think a lot of us are a lot closer to homelessness then we believe than we would be to extreme wealth. All it takes, is one work place accident, one bad relationship or a loss of a loved one and you can be right there in the same predicament,” Pidt says.

Donations can be made at the Humanity Project, at Good Life Fitness or at Maritime Hydraulic Repair Centre.

Pidt will also be taking donations during her run. She will be running down Old Shediac Road, then through the Town of Shediac to Aboiteau Beach.
