Caraquet RCMP is investigating a fatal collision on Route 11 in Dugas between three cars that left an older couple dead on Saturday night.
A preliminary investigation indicates a car with three young men in it hit the back of a car carrying a 72-year old man, and 57-year old woman.
After the impact, the couple’s car crossed the centre line and was hit by an oncoming vehicle carrying a family of three.
The couple died at the scene, while the man, woman and girl were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The three young men in the vehicle fled the scene, and the car was later found burned out in a gravel pit in the Bertand area.
The driver of that car was arrested and then released on a promise to appear in court.
The investigation is ongoing.
