It is no surprise that gyms and fitness centres see a spike in memberships and activity in January.
Which is usually the result of New Year’s Resolutions to be healthier and exercise more.
Fitness expert Laura Kingston says exploring your options before committing to a gym in January is a good idea because things are usually a little slower in December, which gives you more flexibility.
Kingston adds January is a very busy time of the year for them as gyms fill up with clients.
She says there is no better time to take action than right now.
“Now is the time not just to plan, but to start doing,” says Kingston. “So even ten minutes of something new today is gonna make your life a lot easier when you move into the New Year and want to try out a fitness routine.”
Kingston says it is very important for people to set themselves realistic goals for their weight loss when starting a new routine because results can sometimes come slowly and she says that is frustrating for a lot of people.
She adds personal trainers can be helpful in those circumstances to help clients manage their expectations and come up with a reasonable plan.
Kingston says many fitness apps can be downloaded straight onto your smartphone to help monitor your progress.
