Elections NB Encouraging People To Run In May Elections

Elections NB is working to get people to put their names forward as candidates in the May 9 elections for the school boards, health boards and municipalities in the province.

The campaign is called Get In The Race and assistant chief electoral officer David Owens tells us there’s somewhere in the range of 735 positions that need to be filled. Owens says typically after the elections in May they end up with some vacancies remaining, saying it’s more effective to have all the names put up early than having to run a by-election down the road. He says if someone is considering making a difference in their community, consider running as a candidate and obtain some information.

Owens speaking to the Rotary Club in Saint John today and he tells us another speaking engagement went on simultaneously in Fredericton. He says they will be speaking to others in the month of February as well.

You can find more information on the Elections NB website.
