Efforts Continue To Get Electricity Restored

Door to door efforts continue in the Acadian Peninsula to ensure that all residents are safe, as they wait for the lights to come back on.

About 450 volunteers and members of the military and legislature are offering information and support. Thousands of doors have been knocked on multiple times.

Five warming teams, comprised of local firefighters, who continue to use equipment to warm up affected homes.

Over 5000 people across the province are still without power. All homes in Greater Moncton have now been restored, but in Kent, around 50 people are left without.

Premier Brian Gallant says a disaster financial assistance program has been launched for those who have suffered financial hardship during the storm. People can receive financial assistance right away that will help them get their lives back to normal. People can also open up files for claims to recover financial loss when it is applicable,

Homeowners with insurance could have coverage for losses incurred as a result of this storm and outage. They should call their insurer to see what is available to them and then seek information on expedited payments through the Disaster Financial Assistance program

For New Brunswickers who have had their power restored, teams have begun to conduct health and safety inspections for those who have applied for disaster financial assistance. These teams will help assess damage, determine need and ensure people’s homes are safe.

More than 130 thousand people were left without power last week after an ice storm hit the province.
