Dawson Settlement Man Spent 27 Months Rebuilding His 1975 AMC Gremlin X

A Dawson Settlement man is showing off a labour of love at Atlantic Nationals this weekend.

Charles Mollins spent 27 months rebuilding his 1975 AMC Gremlin X from the ground up before its debut five years ago.

“It was three cars in one, […] basically it was rotted out because I left it in the garage and we had to cut it all off, put a new belly on it, then put the top back on it,” says Mollins.

He adds most people coming by simply admire the look.

“Then you hear these people say “Oh I had one of those!” or “My mother and father had one of those”, says Mollins. “One guy came and said “that was the first car I drove” and that was kinda neat because people bought them because they were good, dependable, cheap cars.”

Mollins says the appeal is that they “weren’t expensive cars, they’re different, they’re rare, and there is very few of them around and that’s kinda what they like about it.”
