Couple Charged With Failing To Provide Necessities Of Life

An Ontario couple whose baby is believed to have been born in a New Brunswick motel has been charged with failing to provide the necessities of life.

Police were called to the Quality Inn in Saint-André over the weekend and were told a woman may have delivered a baby in one of the rooms sometime before May 25.

No one had seen the woman and the baby and there was concern for their well-being.

After asking for the public’s help on Monday, police located the couple and the baby at a motel in Edmundston late that evening and arrested the parents.

Yuyang Guan, 26, and Michael Bonnell, 30, appeared in court on Tuesday and have been remanded until their next appearance on Thursday.

Police say the baby is in the care of social development and is in good condition.
