Concerns Raised Over Funding Of Tri Community Codiac RCMP Volunteers

Concerns have been raised about Codiac RCMP downloading costs onto the Tri-Community Codiac RCMP Volunteers association that helps the police with various tasks.

Moncton City Councillor Charles Leger explains how the change came about.

“Recently upon completion of an audit within it’s budget, there were items that were identified that can no longer be covered as they are classified as not part of what was allowable,” says Leger. “That became known recently.”

In his role as Chair of the Codiac Regional Policing Authority, the police oversight committee, Leger says they were not responsible for downloading any costs onto the association as funding them was never within the CRPA’s mandate – this was solely an RCMP decision.

“And the CRPA certainly, and I, have asked that we review that, and that we make the funds available for volunteers to do their job.”

Leger says the volunteers are “certainly an important part of delivering RCMP services, and doing a variety of different tasks, and certainly the commitment is to continue that.”
