A community group is putting together a list of landlords and property managers who will help victims of fires.
Jason Surette is the founder of Big Hearts, Small City.
He says they have good relationships with managers so far, and are looking to expand their network.
“Most of them will give someone the rest of the month free for rent, and then they give them some time to have the damage deposit put through on their new place, so that’s what’s important,” says Surette.
He says after a fire, most people lose everything and need every scrap of money to go towards rebuying necessities and aren’t able to afford a full month’s rent on top of a damage deposit.
