Coalition Of NB Employers Wants Complete Overhaul Of Workers Compensation System

There has to be a major overhaul of the Workers Compensation system in New Brunswick, that according to the Coalition of NB Employers.

Coalition Chair Ron Marcolin says in the system is looking at compensation rate increases of between $165 million to $185 million in 2019.

“Over the last three years or so New Brunswick in roughly the 2016 time frame had the second-lowest costs in Canada, now we will as of 2019 be the highest in Canada,” stated Marcolin.

Marcolin says they will be making this a front-burner issue in the provincial election.

“We have a letter writing campaign we have also asked for meetings and we clearly are keeping this item high on their agenda. This is a priority for New Brunswickers both for the employees and the employers because this is clearly an unsustainable system,” says Marcolin.

Marcolin says collectively the members of the coalition employ nearly two-thirds of the provinces entire private sector workforce and pay hundreds of millions of dollars in wages, benefits and taxes each year.
