Cleanup Tips For Homeowners Dealing With Flood Damage

For New Brunswickers going back to their flooded homes and wondering where to start the clean-up, the province has some tips on tackling the work.

You should start cleaning up your property as soon as the water has receded but only go back home when it’s safe to do so. Once you get back into your home, take out water-soaked walls and insulation, and let the space and studding dry thoroughly.

When cleaning, wear gloves, a mask and goggles to protect yourself and anything that got wet and can’t be cleaned and fully dried in a 24 to 48 hour period should be taken outside.

Open all doors and windows while you’re working and when leaving the home if that’s possible. Use fans and dehumidifiers when it’s safe to use electricity. You should dry your home and everything in it quickly.
