The City of Moncton will not be painting rainbow crosswalks this year, but you will notice them on the Riverfront Park trail instead.
River of Pride worked closely with the city to come up with other ways of promoting diversity in the community.
Project Coordinator Charles MacDougall says a rainbow motif with be done on the trail in the events zone.
Rainbow banners will also be going up on Main Street lamp posts.
MacDougall says, “Banners are going to be going up in around two weeks, so mid-July, and they will stay until Labour Day weekend. The rainbow motif on the Riverfront Trail should be painted next week.”
This comes after concerns were raised over an ongoing study by the Transportation Association of Canada, looking at crosswalks and safety.
Moncton City Council voted to wait until the study is completed and the results are released.
MacDougall hopes they will reconsider the rainbow crosswalks in the future based on results.
Pride Week in the City of Moncton runs August 18th to 25th.
