Christmas Eve Blaze Forces A Baby and 7 Adults From Their Homes

A Christmas Eve fire that levelled a landmark building on Perth-Andover’s riverfront forced seven adults and one baby from five apartments in the McPhail Insurance building.

Red Cross disaster volunteers are helping all eight tenants with somewhere to stay unti; at least Wednesday because of the holiday.

The volunteers are also helping with emergency purchases of items like clothing, food, replacements for some medications destroyed by the fire and other essentials.

They had get crutches for one person who hurt an ankle jumping from a second-storey window to escape the fire.

Crews from Perth-Andover and at least five other communities battled the blaze which was reported around 4am on Sunday.
