Beware Of Frost Bite in Cold Temperatures

Last night’s blizzard may have come and go from the region, but the cold temperatures aren’t going anywhere.

It’s not recommended that you stay outdoors in temperatures like we’re experiencing right now. We’re looking at windchill values of around minus 30.

Exposure for long lenghts of time increases the risk of frost bite.

Spokesperson for the Candian Red Cross Lisa MacIssac says it’s suggested that you dress warmly if you have to be out.

He says, “You should try and cover up any areas that could be exposed, and if your clothing gets wet, you should try and change as soon as possible.”

Frost bite can affect your body tissues, and is often seen on your fingers, nose, ears, or toes..Your skin can freeze within a few minutes. One of the first signs is when your skin becomes pale.
