A major boost for the Humanity Project, thanks to the Riverview Atlantic Superstore.
They are planning to donate unsold perishable food items that would normally be thrown in the garbage to the non profit organization instead.
That includes things like meat, bakery produce, and seafood.
Manager Lisa Bates says this idea was brought to her by one of her employees, “My Community Room Coordinator Theresa Halverson introduced me to the Humanity Project program, because she has been volunteering there for quite sometime. I visited for myself and was very moved. It was quite a humbling experience. I wanted to do something to help them.”
Bates says this will mean more choice for those using the services at the Humanity Project. Instead of sitting down to a bowl of chicken noodle soup and crackers….They’ll have the option of things like fruit, hamburger or even steak.
The Riverview store is one of three in New Brunswick that donates unsold food.
