App Helping University Students Monitor Moods

University students across Atlantic Canada are keeping tracking of how they feel this week.

Students from nine universities, are using a Mood App.

Mental Health Strategist at UNB Matthew MacLean says, “When you sign up for it, what it is going to start doing is prompting you at two random points each day to let it know how you are feeling. You can choose from amongst five different moods from awful, to normal to I’m feeling really great.”

MacLean says, “It will help individuals track their moods and help them to understand when and why they feel the way they do. They might see a trend between not knowing something was causing them some worry. People might report coin Monday morning for instance, that they’re not feeling so great. Something like that might not be so surprising, but who knows what might come out of it.”

The institutions are hoping to take note of the mood trends overall, so they can make improvements to mental health at the institutions.
