Anglophone DEC Votes In Favour Of New Grade 6 To 8 School For North End

The Anglophone East District Education Council will make its recommendation to the province for a middle school for Moncton’s North End.

The grades 6 to 8 school would hold over 650 students, and it would incorporate students currently in the Northrop Frye and Evergreen Park area. It would also include students in the Valhalla area, who are right now being bussed to Queen Elizabeth.

Once the school is built, Northrop Frye and Evergreen Park schools would be converted to K to 5.

Council Chairperson Tamara Nichol says as to where that school will go? That decision is left up to the province, but she says there is more flexibility with a grades 6 to 8 school.

Nichol says, they’re ready to move on the next step, “I’ll write a letter to the Minister and let him know that Council would like to recommend a grades 6 to 8 school. After that, we wait. We feel very positive that it will be approved. The province is well aware of the needs we have right now in the North end of Moncton.”

The Council hopes to have an approval from the province in December or January.
