It has been a vibrant night in the small community of Alma.
Residents have been celebrating since 7pm last night, in anticipation of the launch of eleven fishing boats who set sail at high tide this morning.
It’s all part of the fall lobster season.
Event Co-ordinator for the fleet launch Jane Chrysostom says it’s their way of honouring the fishermen, “It’s not an easy job because they’re out there in all kinds of weather, whether it be daylight or darkness, rain or freezing cold or windy. We realize the devotion to the entire industry.”
This is the third year that this event has been held.
Chrysostom says the boats represents about 50 families whose livelihood is the success if the fishing season, “For us to come together to have the cannons firing and churchbells ringing and food and hot beverages, it’s a terstament to the devotion of the industry and the families here and wishing them well.”
Celebrations wrapped up early this morning.
