An Alberta man is spreading his wealth across the country, in an effort to help end child hunger.
For Canada 150, 60 year old Geoff Gyles decided to travel to each province and territory, giving a $10, 000 cheque to food banks and soup kitchens in each capital, “An extra bit of money, especially at this time of year when donations are a little thinner than they normally are, they’re very grateful. I have met many people who are inspiring in the great work they are doing to help Canadians who are less fortunate than the rest of us.”
Gyles says this is a cause that he has always had a passion for, “I have worked my whole entire adult career in this. Part of the reason I went into Agriculture was to focus on creating an environment where there’s food for everyone.”
Gyles made a stop in Fredericton recently, and presented a cheque to Greener Village.
His total donation is $150, 000. After giving money in each province, the $10, 000 remaining goes to a national breakfast for children program.
Gyles has one stop left. He will present his last cheque in Iqaluit on July 10th.
