A Man, His Dog, And A Cross Canada Trip

It is a truism that dogs are a man’s best friend, and a man from BC says his dog has changed his life as they travel across Canada from coast to coast to raise awareness for homeless and abused animals.

Frank Sapach is from Chilliwack, BC, and says he suffers from osteoarthritis, and was diagnosed with prostate cancer and was in constant pain.

His dog is an 8 year old female German Shepherd called Shiela and when he refused surgery and radiation, he began to think of what he would do with her when he was gone.

He started to travel across Canada to find a new owner who would take care of her properly, but a month into his journey he started to feel better and now declares himself pain free.

Sapach says he never would have done this without Shiela.

“She’s totally changed my life and given me a whole different outlook towards animals simply because of her concern for me,” says Sapach. “She seems to be very concerned with my wellbeing, I’ve had two German Shepherds before her that were excellent dogs but she seems a little different.’

They will be staying in Moncton over the winter, as it’s too cold to finish their journey to Halifax. But he says they will be on the move again in the Spring to reach the East Coast, and then return home.
