The annual Sue Stultz and Moncton Firefighters Turkey Drive will kick off next week.
But this year the annual tradition is being set up as a drive-thru down back at the St.George Boulevard fire station, because of COVID-19.
You’ll just stay in your car, while a volunteer wearing a mask takes your turkey, while physical distancing.
Firefighter Christopher Jackson says it’s an important tradition in Southeast New Brunswick, “Even more so in a year like this where the strains are even greater on people and people have lost employment and have had a hard time.”
Frozen turkeys can be dropped off on December 2, 3 and 4th.
If you would prefer to make a monetary donation, of any amount, you can do so online, on the Sue Stultz turkey drive website, “We equate to one turkey being equal to $25. What we do is we pool the money that is donated and we purchase a bulk amount of turkeys,” Jackson says.
This allows those who might be concerned about COVID-19, to be able to donate as well.
Jackson says, “It is the safest way to do it, and you can donate right there, and watch the tally go up as you donate. It helps to make sure everyone is safe.”
Their goal this year is 3216 turkeys.
The turkeys are given to Food Depot Alimentaire to be used in their food boxes.
