Changes To Delivery Of Food Boxes This Christmas

Another annual tradition in Southeast New Brunswick is delivering food boxes to those in need.

The pandemic is taking its toll on that as well.

Food Depot Alimentaire Executive Director Chantal Senecal says they came up with a plan, “To pack the Christmas boxes early this year. So, we are actually going to be packing them at the very start of December. The Christmas boxes will be going to families during their regular food box visits.”

Senecal says the boxes are a bit smaller this year, “We are running through the whole month, so we can’t put fresh product in. It is not ideal but we are just glad to be able to continue to be able to provide something at Christmas time for all of our families.”

Hundreds of drivers normally line-up at the Moncton Coliseum the week before Christmas to deliver the boxes.

There will also be fewer volunteers this year, “We’ll have pre-registered drivers, so we will be able to contact trace and have protocols in place, but we are just trying to control everything very carefully to make sure that we can still provide,” Senecal says.
