Looking for something good to read?

1918, Ireland. WWI hasn’t yet ended, and the world is in the midst of the Spanish Flu pandemic. A nurse in an overcrowded and understaffed Dublin hospital looks after labouring pregnant women who also have the illness that ultimately kills as much as 6 percent of the world’s population.

It may sound too close for comfort these days, but I found it comforting to read about a time in which things were a lot worse than they are now, yet the world survived.

The Pull of the Stars by Emma Donoghue, two thumbs up.

Available from all NB public libraries. 🙂
