No Ten Digit Dialing Yet For New Brunswick

A second area code for New Brunswick has been put on hold.

The Canada Radio Television and Telecommunications Commission had planned to add area code 428 on November 21st, but that decision has now been deferred.

They say a new projected forecast for numbers shows there is no need for the new area code yet.

When deciding whether a second area code is needed, the Commission looks at factors including population and economic growth, as well as projected needs for additional telephone numbers.

This additional number would have required New Brunswickers to begin ten digit dialing when making calls.
