Humanity Project Founder Says We Need To Start Investing Back Into Our People

How can we help to reduce the number of homeless in our community?

Founder of the Humanity Project Charlie Burrell, says the numbers are rising because times are getting harder for people in the Maritimes.

“Things are only going to get worse until we start investing back in our people. In this city, we have a major lack of affordable housing and mental health and addiction services, and it is just driving people into a more impoverished situation,” Burrell says.

He believes that are a lot of people who are homeless now, who may not have been in that situation a year ago.

“We need to have a better system in place to get people through the proper channels for addictions services and mental health and we start thinking more about affordable housing and tiny homes to try and transition some of these people from the streets.”

The Humanity Project provides meals and other support to the homeless in Greater Moncton.
