Homelessness A Major Challenge For Moncton In 2019

As a growing city, Moncton isn’t without it’s set of challenges.

One of the most prominent issues the Hub City has experienced in recent years is homelessness.

Mayor Dawn Arnold says many initiatives have been launched throughout Greater Moncton, including a new shelter.

Mayor Arnold says the city is making progress with the new shelter and creating a by names list in order to assess each individual’s needs.

“But shelters aren’t really the answer. What we clearly need is housing and we need different places along the housing spectrum,” she says.

The city is looking to implement a housing authority in the new year to become the expert on affordable housing.

The selected group or individual will work on establishing low-cost and mixed-income rental units in the community.
