Fire Destroys Renovated Cap-Pele Restaurant

A busy morning for firefighters in Cap-Pele.

They were called to the Bel-Air restaurant at around 3am this morning.

Chief Ronald Cormier says when they arrived on scene, the building was fully engulfed.

He says they managed to save the buildings next door, but the restaurant is a total loss.

This isn’t the first fire at the Bel-Air. Cormier says there was another in the spring, and renovations were still underway.

“I know people were working here since the last fire. The last one was not a big fire, but there were people working here just yesterday,” Cormier says.

Firefighters were on scene for around eight hours.

Port Elgin and Haute-Aboujagne departments were also on scene while they battled the blaze.

No word on a cause yet.
