Case Of Tuberculosis Confirmed At Moncton School

A case of Tuberculosis has been diagnosed within the Bernice MacNaughton school community.

Letters were sent home to parents this week, informing them of a case of the infection.

It stated Public Health is investigating and is collecting more information. They hope to release more details in the coming week.

A parent information session is planned at 6:30pm on Monday night at the school to provide more information on the disease.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Yves Leger will be on hand to answer any questions parents may have.

Tuberculosis is an infection of the lungs, similar to pneumonia. It can be spread from one person to another when an individual is sick and coughing, but it cannot be spread by handshakes, or touching tables or doorknobs.

A fact sheet about Tuberculosis has also been posted on the school’s website.
