Lots Of Community Support For Families In Need At Christmas

Each year, the community comes together to help make the holiday season easier for all families…

1700 boxes of food have to be filled this year, to help families in need for Christmas time.

Food Depot Alimentaire President Dale Hicks says $136, 000 is needed to fill those boxes.

The boxes contain enough food for a family of four, including a turkey, “The need has been fairly consistent over the years, but it is the way the community responds, which always amazes me. The community comes from all directions to support other members of the community at Christmas time. It is just a feel good story,” Hicks says.

Volunteers are needed to fill the boxes the week before Christmas and deliveries will be done on December 20th, starting at around noon from the Moncton Coliseum.

Hicks says in the six years he has been involved in the campaign, he always shares the story of a woman who called one year, the day after the campaign ended, “She was crying and her kids didn’t have anything. We brought her out to the depot and gave some food and stuff. In the spring, this woman shows up at the door with two bags of food and a couple of kids behind her. She said I am the woman who called at Christmas time. You let me in, and gave me a couple of boxes. I just got a job a couple of months ago, and I got an apartment this month. I just wanted to come and give something back.”

Hicks says stories like that show how grateful people are, and how the community can really comes together when needed.
