Extraordinary Care Campaign For Moncton Hospital Surpasses Goal

The total raised was revealed this morning in the largest fundraising campaign ever for the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation.

The Extraordinary Care Campaign raised over $10.1 million, that’s two million more than their goal.

Chair Robert K. Irving says, “We were able to exceed our target by $2.1 million. It was an extraordinary campaign.

Chief of Staff Dr. Ken Gillespie says this will help to build a more family-centred Maternity and newborn unit. It will also allow for the relocation of the Cardiac Care unit.

“Not only upgrading the rooms and the equipment and all of those things, but also looking at how you provide that care. Part of it is not just saying okay well it is a new paint job and a new room, it’s looking at what are we doing now and what can we do better and how can we design the facility to allow us to do that better, “Gillespie says.

The new Unit will enhance the Labour and Birthing Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and the Maternal Fetal Medicine Clinic. These three units will be relocated and merged into a newly constructed building between the Professional Arts Building on Arden Street and the hospital’s main entrance on MacBeath Avenue.

Over 60 community volunteers were involved in the fundraising campaign.

This is the third campaign for Mr. Irving, “We proved once again that together we can accomplish Extraordinary results!”

The amount raised, combined with the Province of New Brunswick’s multi-million dollar commitment will allow for the work to be done in these two critical areas at the Moncton Hospital, and will help bring it into the twenty-first century.

Construction on the new maternity unit is expected to begin in the spring of 2020, and it is targeted to open in late 2022.

Work on the Cardiac Care Unit will begin once that is completed.

Irving says, “It is important to give back to the community where you have your business. It also think the hospital touches everybody, right from infants to seniors.”
