Tri-Communities To Ban Single-Use Plastic Bags In July 2020

All of the tri-communities have now adopted a bylaw banning single-use plastic bags.

Enforcement will officially start in July of next year.

Fines will range from $140 to $2,100 for non-compliance.

Town of Riverview spokesperson Meghan Cross says a public awareness campaign will be rolled out in the coming months.

“So that consumers in Greater Moncton are aware of the ban, what it means for them and ways that they can proactively begin to reduce their own dependence on plastic bags,” she notes.

A survey last year showed overwhelming support for a ban on single-use plastic bags from residents and businesses.

Municipal councils in Moncton, Riverview and Dieppe all unanimously supported the bylaw.
