David Coon Celebrates Green Victory In PEI

The Leader of the New Brunswick Green party says it was an historic moment in Prince Edward Island yesterday.

The PEI Greens won eight seats in the provincial election, “The result was a real victory in Canada to form the official opposition for the first time, in a minority government. Both of those things taken together will make for a very interesting government.”

Coon adds he is also encouraged by the incoming PC Premier Dennis King, “He certainly has been very clear about wanting to work together. I expect Green Party Leader Peter Bevan-Baker is looking forward to sitting down and having talks with the other leaders to see how the Legislature is going to work.”

Coon says this marks a new political era in Canada , “When the Greens form the official opposition in a province for the first time. That breaks down many barriers for the success of Green candidates in the future. PEI took the number of seats from two to eight. There certainly is a green wave in our portion of the country. ”

The PEI Progressive Conservatives were elected in 12 districts, the Green Party in eight and the Liberals in six.
