Road Closures Expected Due To Rising Waters

With the water levels rising, Director of the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization Greg MacCallum says there are going to be impacts across the province.

This includes road closures, and barricades will be erected, “Some of your habitually used routes to work or shopping might be closed, and detours will be necessary.

MacCallum says you must not ignore them, “The barricades are there for a very good reason. It is an offense to move them, ignore them or drive around them or to disobey any of the officials who are manning the barricades. These are in place for public safety purposes.”

MacCallum says he understands road closures are an inconvenience, “We want people to be patient and understand these things are happening out of necessity and they are in abundance of public safety that they are happening.”

Drivers are also asked to obey changes to speed limits and to watch for wildlife on roads. Some animals will be seeking higher ground as their natural territories are covered by water. The presence of wildlife on roads should be reported to local authorities.

A list of the latest road closures is available online.
