Both Sides Take Break In Nursing Home Workers Dispute

The mediator in the nursing home workers dispute has told both parties to take a temporary break from negotiations.

No further talks are scheduled this week between CUPE and the New Brunswick Association of Nursing Homes.

A provincial representative joined the talks on Monday.

Social Development Minister Dorothy Shephard says an offer has been presented to members of CUPE.

But the union claims the offer has already been rejected by employees which was a three-year contract with a median wage increase of 10.5 cents per hour every six months.

Meantime, the province returns to court tomorrow where a judge could decide whether or not the workers can go on strike following a ten day stay order.
