Greater Moncton Swim Clubs Looking For New Members

Greater Moncton is the only community in the province that has enough swim talent to have two competitive teams.

The Codiac Vikings Aquatic Club is based out of the Pat Crossman Centre.

Melanie Melanson is the Head Coach. She says it’s a sport that teaches life skills, both independently and as a team.

“It teaches commitment, and it teaches personal accountability. There’s mental strength you need to be a swimmer. When you’re in the water, there’s no coach in your ear, there’s no parent in your ear, there are no other players in your ear, it’s just you and your face is in the water and you are swimming. It’s just you and your thoughts.”

Melanson adds, “You get those lessons from an individual sport, the personal accountability from an individual sport, but they do train as a team, and so you’re with your teammates. Sometimes it’s more than you are with your family, depending on the level you are training at.”

CNBO is also an option. It is based out of the CEPS on the Universite de Moncton campus.

Both take swimmers at all levels, and registration is open now, for both teams.

“I love that you can move according to your own wants, needs and desires. I love that it is something that can translate into a way to provide stress relief and physical activity well into your 90’s, ” Melanson says.

Assessments are being scheduled for this weekend for the Codiac Vikings.
