Greater Moncton’s Only Gay Bar Will Hold Its Last Dance

On September 29th, the only gay bar in Greater Moncton will be closing its doors.

After 23 years in business, the owners of Triangles on St. George Street are retiring but are hopeful someone else with new ideas will come forward to take over.

Since the closure was recently announced, co-owner Stella Fougere says the response from the community has been tremendous.

“We were really expecting an impact but nothing like this. We’re touched and gratified beyond words. The outpouring of support and appreciation… beyond words,” she notes.

Fougere says the bar business has changed and being gay is the most welcome change of all since LGBT members are welcome at any establishment.

She adds many people now meet through online chat rooms and dating apps.

On Facebook, many commented on how Triangles was always a safe place and one man said the bar saved his life.

She expects a large crowd will turn out to say goodbye during the final night.
