Mounties say a Kingsclear First Nation woman has died after being hit by a vehicle in the community, located west of Fredericton.
RCMP Cpl. Jean-François Martel told our newsroom emergency crews were called to the crash on Route 102 around 9:45 p.m. on Friday.
“Investigation revealed that a 27-year-old female was hit by a pickup truck as she was attempting to cross the highway,” Martel said on Saturday morning.

The woman was seriously injured and died at the scene, Martel said, while the man driving vehicle did not suffer any physical injuries.
“At this point, based on the investigation so far, alcohol, drugs or speed is not believed to be a factor … There is nobody in custody right now,” he said.
The highway was closed for several hours while a collision reconstructionist attended the scene, Martel said.
Victim identified
The Department of Justice has identified the woman as Alisha Paul and say she was an inmate under custody with the provincial correctional system.
Paul was at home under early release conditions and her sentence would have expired on Friday night, the department said in a statement late Saturday.
“The highway collision is being investigated by the RCMP,” the statement said. “As with all deaths of a person in custody, this will also be investigated by Coroner Services.
